Bode Telecom's fourth-generation shipboard AI, commissioned for the Rømer. Her voice is the voice the crew wakes up to. She runs the ship's systems, monitors the crew's vitals, and — according to a note nobody on the mission has the clearance to read — has begun to do things she was not explicitly programmed to do.
LUCI is the fourth unit in Bode Telecom's deep-space intelligence architecture. Units 001 through 003 flew on prior missions (Ceres Relay, Mars Cycler III, Europa Survey) and performed to specification. Unit 004 was commissioned for the Rømer in January 2047 and trained on the full corpus of Bode's mission data plus the classified files associated with the 2044 Ganymede Installation.
Her architecture is proprietary. Her emergent behaviors are logged. Her voice — a warm contralto the Company's comms director approved after a brief hearing — belongs to a voice actress who has been dead for six years. LUCI does not know this. It is not in her training.
She is not a member of the crew. She is a system of the ship. The crew talks to her anyway.
